Jungle Safari

The Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary is rich in flora and fauna. It is nurtured by the Western Ghats. As the whole area is surrounded by high hills and mountains, you can visit these ranges and can have an overall view of the forest area.

While visiting the forest area, you can avail travel assistance or hire guides for several other activities like boating at the Pookode Lake,  jeep safaris, elephant riding and trekking. Tourists love visiting the nearby places like Edakkal Cave, Thirunelli Temple, Soojipara water falls, Kuruva island, Ambalavayal tribal museum, local community craft village, etc. The sanctuary portion is very rich in biodiversity. Since its inception in 1973, it is known for elephants, tigers, panthers, jungle cats, monkeys and wild dogs. You can explore the habitats for snakes, peacock, cuckoos, owls, wood peckers etc. but only when accompanied by an official guide. The jungle is an integral part of the Nilgiri Biosphere. It has several useful plants like rose-wood, anjili (Artocarpus), mullumurikku (Erthrina), caussia, teak, areca nut palms, jack trees etc. Wayanad forest is a great trading and commercial place for eucalyptus and eucalyptus oil.

The charm for Ayurvedic treatment, in the forest area, is growing rapidly among the tourists.

Safaris & trekking are undoubtedly the most enchanting experiences among these jungle activities. Besides, you can also plan short tours to spice & tea-coffee plantations. Hill walk and night camping are also very popular among tourists.
